The emission value is based on a life cycle assessment conducted by Apple, and refers to a MacBook Pro 14” (Apple, 2021a). The emission value includes energy usage in the factory, as well as in the extraction and refinement of raw materials. Additionally, emissions from the transportation of materials and components to the factory, as well as the transportation of the finished computer to stores, are included. Emissions that occur during the computer’s use (e.g., from electricity consumption) and from waste management and recycling after the computer has been discarded are not included. The data value has been rounded from 209 to 210 kg CO₂e on the card.
